Keep water squirters handy. When the cat is attacking someone, squirt it.

Where did you get this cat?
If it was a stray it's very possible that the cat has trust issues, it very well may have been abused in the past.
It may have had to fight to stay alive.
The cat trustes you because you rescued it but has issues with strangers and other animals.

We have four cats, everytime someone comes into our house all the cats hide and stay hidden until they decide that they can trust the new person...three of them do that, the other one NEVER comes out of hiding while someone else is in the house.
The cat that always hides was abused so she trustes nobody but us.

Please do not use a spray bottle on your cat...according to my Vet that is the worst way to train a cat.
The cat does not associate the spray bottle with the behavior that your trying to correct, it associates the spray bottle with you and may then develop trust issues with you and if you squirt the cat in the face the water may get in the cats ears causing a build up of yeast in the ears leading to a trip to the Vet.

The best way to stop bad behavior in a cat is when the cat is doing something wrong...clap your hands and say very loudly and firmly NO.

These tips came from my Vet and they've always worked for us.

Good luck and I hope that kitty calms down.

I agree with Gracie and her vet. Spray bottles are much too overused. Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article in the article library titled "Squirt Bottles, Punishment and Cat Behavior".

My family owned one named Goliath that killed all the cats in our neighborhood when we first moved there, was a sweet cat, but it never tamed down. The dogs were even afraid of it.
