Stay away from any church that adds or detracts from Jesus' work or Who He is - they must teach that He is the Son of God, and died on the cross, fully human, fully God, in payment for all sin. Make sure they are Biblical oriented - a good clue is that everyone is carrying their Bibles to church. Talk to the pastor and ask the hard questions - who do they say Jesus is - what is required for salvation - is the Bible the Word of God, The rest is simply personal preference - whether you pray out loud or silently, whether you celebrate communion with wine or grape juice - doesn't matter.

The one that works for you. Different congregations, even in the same religious family, are different in the way that they approach life and worship.
Some churchs are family oriented, some environmentally oriented, some include alot of music, some do a lot of debates.
A church and its congregation is a community of people. Worship with the people that you like.

One of your own religion or a non-denomenational church where you enjoy attending and are comfortable.
You may have to attend a few churches before you find your niche. If you attend a church where the message is uplifting and makes you feel better about yourself and the world around you, that will probably be the one you will choose.

One that preaches the Truth of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sadly though, they are few and far between. Make sure the preacher uses a word for word translation KJV or NASB. One where the Holy Spirit is working. Just go and visit some and pray about it. The Lord will lead you to the right church.

The type that follows the word of God and helps you to grow spiritually and to live out God's purpose.
Often, these types of church are ones that have minimal or no traditions to follow. They seem like what is described in the new testament - believers meeting in people's homes, breaking bread from house to house. Sometimes they are referred to as "local churches" or "free cell groups".

When I first became a Christan I went on a search. I found a church that is bible believing and teaching. This church does not put man's traditions over the bible. It's called "Christian" church.

One that adheres to the teachings of the bible and doesn't add a bunch of their own man-made rules to the mix. Non-denominational would be the best way to go.

You want to go where "accurate knowledge" is given from the bible. Many churches teach their own doctrines, you want to go where people are taught to love one another, for Jesus said you will recognize his disciples if they have love for one another (not just for "church-goers" but for their enemies also). You want to go where people do not follow man made traditions...you only want to go where people worship the Creator and want to please only Him and not themselves. You want to go where people know God's personal name. (Psalms 83:18). You want to go where people have sound reasoning and do not believe in "blind faith" but faith that is proved by works. (Book of James)
I wonder if you know which place I am talking about...it would be in your best interest to check out your local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

That is up to you. You need to do research and go with the church that most agrees with your beliefs. Not what everyone else says is the best.

I admit I'm biased. I like the Catholic church. I've never gone to more then one service anywhere else. To each their own. I do suggest you give us at least a try if you are looking for a new church and haven't decided on what denomination.
