What color is Hazel supposed to be?

I have heard green and I have heard brown. I thought it was the in between color.

I have several colors going on in my eyes gray/green/brown and they are called hazel... other then that I always imagine hazel nut shell being the color..

In my opinion, it is in-between the two colors. I have hazel eyes, and my eyes tend to change colors, sometimes they are green and sometimes they look more brown. Maybe it has to do with emotions, because when I cry my eyes are bright green.

There is some difficulty in defining the eye color "hazel" as it is sometimes considered to be synonymous with brown and other times with green. They have been described as light brown or yellowish brown, or as a lighter shade of brown. Hazel eyes have also been described as being equivalent to blue/grey.

my friend swears she has hazel/green eyes and i think theyre brown...so, eh...i guess its open for interpretation.

It`s sopose to be a green color mixed with a brown that then looks like a yellow.
