Not specifically an apple.
Apples are not that rich in micronutrients (vitamines, trace elements)
Fibre content is only modest (choose prunes)

Apples are rich in sugars, acids (malate or 'apple acid') and water. They don't contain phenolics (grapes, rasins)

The only thing I can think of is that because of the acid in apples (sometimes the acid taste is masked by the sugar) you can prevent the formation of tooth stone, but I rather think this is a minimal effect.

More important fruits are citrus fruits because of vit C and other components like limonin and fibre rich fruits like prunes, raisins,...

Apple juice is a 'poor juice' especially if it clear, that means they 've also removed the fibres, what remains are sugars and water basically.

Don't listen to them. Apples are awesome. They have lots of helpful vitamins in then, they taste good, and you don't actually have to eat an apple. You could just drink a cup that's 100% apple juice. Or apple cider. The apple itself obviously retains the better stuff, but really and truly apples are great.

I have drank apple cider before when I was getting sick, and I was better by the next day. I also felt better then normal. Course this was the common cold we're talking about here, and not something really serious.
