I deliver mail for a living and we just had a bad ice storm come through. I did have a few slips turning into almost splits (but no falls) on the ice, but felt no pain, until the next day. i'm having agonizing pain. WOULD A CHIROPRACTOR HELP or should i go to a regular doctor?

Chiropractors can always help. They study the entire nervous system which pretty much takes you right through the whole body. I had a bad injury on my knee and my chiropractor fixed me right up. For additional information you might try the doctorslounge.com

Don't ask them about chiro though, a lot of doctors think of chiropractors as witch doctors.

If you want immediate relief, go to a doctor. Since it's likely a soft tissue injury as opposed to an actual misalignment, you'll probably get faster relief from a doctor. Long live anti-inflammatories and pain killers. However, if you think your pain is coming from a previous condition that was irritated by your "Mail person on Ice" routine, the chiropractor is probably the way to go.

You can always go to the doctor first and in a couple of weeks if you still feel a little "off" go see the chiropractor once the swelling has gone done. They have an easier time making things stay when the area isn't swollen anyway.

I for one appreciate my mail a great deal, so thanks for braving the weather to bring it to your route, I hope you feel better soon.

It could be a number of things, from a pulled muscle, to strained ligaments. I would recommend seeing my family doctor. In some cases you have to have a referral from your family doctor, before you can see a chiropractor. Also some rest and staying off of it for a day may help. i know it is hard to do that, due to having to support you and a family, but it just might be wise to take a sick day.

yoga. sit on the floor in Indian fashion. now bend from the waist. do not tuck or raise your head. keep your spine level. suck in your stomach and do not hold your breath. breathe evenly. bend as far as you can to stretch without pain. hold that position. raise up. breathe. do it again. do this several times a day. it will stretch out your hips and your spine and release the sciatic nerve that is caught and causing your discomfort.
