In Christianity, Ishmael was caste out at the age of 17 by Sarah because she didn't want the son of bondwoman to heir with her son Isaac.
In Islam God ordered Abraham to take Ishmael and his father to Mecca prior his weaning.
Proof the Islam is right and that bible was altered:
1- Genesis 21:14-20 are clearly talking about a baby not a 17 years old man.
2- in new American bible we find the following verse was corrected:
Gen:14
Early the next morning Abraham got some bread and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. Then, placing the child on her back,
Footnote: Placing the child on her back: the phrase is translated from an emended form of the Hebrew text. In the current faulty Hebrew text, Abraham put the bread and the waterskin on Hagar's back, while her son apparently walked beside her. This reading seems to be a scribal attempt at harmonizing the present passage with the data of the Priestly source, in which Ishmael

in which Ishmael would have been at least fourteen years old when Isaac was born; compare Genesis 16:16 with Genesis 21:5; cf Genesis 17:25. But in the present Elohist story Ishmael is obviously a little boy, not much older than Isaac; cf Genesis 15:18.

Ishmael, was Abraham's son so the Jews have the story about him right and since the Christians came from the Hebrews, they had the story of Ishmael from the true source.

As a Christian and of course Bible reader, I never heard of a 17 yo Ishmael, that's 'Christian tradition' according to non-Christian sources!
On God's inspiration Abraham listened to Sarah sending away Ishmael because his behavior was not according to the sacred duty that went from Abraham to Isaac to Jacob; and later to Moshe, David, Salomon, and finally Jesus the Christ.
Jesus was Jew, not Ishmaelite, and imho never said anything about any kind of prophet after Him.

I always thought that Ismael was a child (not 17) when Abraham cast them out.
I believe that is the root cause of all the fighting in the Middle East that is still going on today.
Sarah sinned by giving Hagar to Abraham because she didn't trust in God to give her a son being since she had prayed for many years and felt that God wasn't answering her prayer.
So when she was an old woman he answered her prayer and gave her Issac. Then she kept provoking Abraham telling him to cast them out because she was jealous of Hagar and Ishmael.
The Jews (offspring of Isaac) and the Arabs or Palestenians (Ismael's offspring) both think that they have the rights of that land and have been in conflict with each other since the Old Testament times and are still fighting until this day.
It was all caused by the sin that Sarah committed by not having faith in God, that caused another sin that caused another sin, etc.
The Bible says also that you pay for the sins of your forefathers.

You are kidding, aren't you?
For every answer you get (and you have obviously done significant research on your own), you will find other answers that contradict it.
Scholars have no way of knowing if most ancient information is true beyond a shadow of a doubt. Even if much of the world's history is fairly well documented, disagreements do abound.
When it comes to religious history, disagreements are legendary.
Bottom line; if you are being a scholar, "Yahoo Answers" is not the best place to pose this question. If you are concerned from a religious point of view, no one can answer it for you. Make the decision yourself, then have faith. That's what religion is supposed to be all about, anyway.

Quran and Bible are the revealed words of One God. Quran is the last revelation sent by God.
Both are are right giving the story of Ismael the great Prophet. But the need is, you have to consult the original Bible i mean old Testament. then you could understand that both are true.
May God Bless you!!!

Genesis 21: 14-20 you say speaks of a baby? 17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the aangel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
Sound like a baby? Only a Muslim could miss the obvious.....14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. ...I'm sure in your twisted mind This means the baby was placed on her back?
The obvious reason that youa re wrong is this is from the book of Moses...Which is the oldest scripture we have and is long before Christ and the Gospel therefore wold not have been corrupted by Christians. The story of Issac is prophesy of the coming Mersiah who would atone for sin and be the lamb of God.this prophesy comes through Moses and was revealed to Abraham which is more than 1500 years before Christ. Now suposeing these people corrupted their scripture to prove God was coming in the flesh 1500 years later to be the lamb of God? Wheter the son was Issac as it was or Ishameal would not change the prophesy which you clearly do not agree with being as you do not accept the deity of Christ or the fact he died on the cross...But missing the fact this is prophesy of the coming of Christ...you still think you understand which son it was? Your religion has so twisted wht you believe and has so little regard fo God's abiality to keep his word pure, That it is pointles to argue wiht you as you will eventually simply call the scripture corrupt...What kind of hypocrite argues scripture he calls corrupt? If you read this chapter of Genesis you will learn the trinity...Gen 1-2 the creation of man and the image of God. You will learn mans falling aways is death...The tree of Knowlege God commanded them in the day you eat of it you will surely die....This is Satans first lie..that you will not surely die...God's plan of Salvation..the tree of life...And the prophesy of the coming of Christ to atone for sin in this story of Abraham and Isaac. The Qu'ran mised teaching these things and actually agree with Satan's first lie you will not surely die...the fact is Adam and Eve and all of us do die...Proving the Bible correct and the Qu'ran corrupt. The salvation from sin is also foretold in Genesis.. The tree of life eat of this and they will live forever...also the story of Abraham and Isaac. Where Abrham said the lord would provide himself a lamb...Al of this thousands of year before Christ...Now why not seek the truth in God's word rather than looking for corruption and following a dead man's book?

The answer is that neither of them got it right. It is a made up story in a made up book (koran or bible).
ALSO... your argument is fatally flawed in the first place, as you seek to discredit the 'christian' viewpoint as expressed in the bible, by using the bible as your proof! But then when did sound logic and reasoning come into religion...

Look, Sarah was Abraham's wife, she had their son -- Hagar was NOT Abraham's wife she was a mistress, to put it politely, and had his son. One was legitimate was was illegitimate, common sense tells you that the illegitimate son, Ishmael, has no priority over the legitimate son, he was and should have been, of no consequence.

The Qur'an was sent to Muhammad to correct the corruptions in the bible, and has been preserved in it's original form, by God, as He promised it would.
Christians are going to disagree, but not because they have searched the truth, but because they "believe" the pastors who preach it, and they are not taught to read & understand for themselves, like muslims are.
