The Discworld series of Brit author Terry Pratchett features Death as a major character, and is really fascinating. See espescially the novels: Mort, Reaper Man, Hogfather, and Soul Music. It will give you a lot of food for thought.
Death does not interfere with people and their actions. He seperates the spirit from the meat at the time of death so they can get on to what awaits them in the next world.

I wouldn't want to be an angel of death. But I would be willing to console those going through the grieving process.

It depends on what an angel of death is. That would be my first question with any fictional character.
