Perhaps because in those days women did marry young. It was a heavily patriarchal society that treated women like property. The same holds true or the societies that early Christianity and Judaism grew out of.

He probably didn't have anything against it.
The Almighty Allah is supposed to be the same God as the Judeo-Christian God and in the Old Testament and New Testament, not once is there mentioned a rule against paedophilia. It's as if Allah/God didn't care.
