The best defensive boxers are Mayweather and Winky Wright.
So the best style is the Mayweather form of the Philly Shell it is easier to switch from offensive to defensive and back using their style then it is when using the conventional style. But be careful when using it if your form is not tight it leaves you open to get tagged in the chin for example De La Hoya when he fought Felix Sturm. He dropped his shoulder too low and was continuously jabbed in it.
The Mayweather Philly Shell is basically using your off hand's shoulder (left for conventional fighters and right for southpaws) to protect your chin on one side and your power hand to protect the other side. it is also very important to use your power hand's elbow to block any body shots as well as your off hand which should be placed across your body. This form turns you more sideways making you a slimmer target as well as makes you more agile whilst you dodge punches.
