TEARS...............

2007-01-20 19:37:49 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 2

Blinking is a physiological phenomenon.normally the eyes are covered by three layers of fluid, which we call the tear film.the tear film consists of three layers ,the innermost layer is called the" mucus layer ",the middle one is called the "watery layer",and the outermost layer is called the "oily layer".the oily layer serves to prevent the rapid evaporation of the underlying two layers.
When a person blinks the eyelids move over the tear film thereby causing an uniform distribution of the "fluid"(tear film). This serves the purpose of lubrication of the eye and keeps it wet. This film also prevents then entry of other pathogens and dust found in the environment.
When you keep your eyes open for a long time without blinking, the tear film gets evaporated rapidly, thereby causing dryness of the "sclera" that's exposed. This stimulates nerve fibres present on the surface and the impulses are carried to the brain which results in the sensation of "burning",thereby forcing you to blink again.
Yeah,that's it yaar.nothing more..so that's why we blink.
take care, bye.

Blinking is a mechanism to wipe tears across your eyes to clean them and remove irritants. If you don't blink, your eyes get irritated, with risk of infection.

there are lot of bacterias in the environment. they continously enter to our eyes and are harmful.
to protect us from them our eyes releases fluid which comes in our eyes when we blink them.
so if you dont blink they can destroy our eye outer layer so never try to do that.
