to the owners of huskies , do you have your dog outside during the day while you work? not to the ones that have them in the house.
some days I feel guilty for leaving our 1yr old husky outside, she looks like she is having fun in yard, she runs on a runner. and chases the birds in trees.
some days though. I still feel a little guilty for leaving her outside, even though her breed is made for the cold weather. and she loves being outside.
just wondering how other owners of huskies that have them outdoors dogs. do you have time to play with them outside yourself, or what is usually your routine, when you work?? only curious.
I have 17yr and spends her time with her video games. we live in ohio. winter time now till march or april.

want to thank the 1st 5. for all the scary thoughts now!!! lovely. thanks alot!!! love the help here. not!!!
we have had the husky since june of 2006. she loves being outdoors. we have 3 cats inside, tried for 2 months of having her, to have her in the house, the problem was she would chase the cats,(they would hide and never come out). the dog would run all over the house and on us and on the furniture(couldnt do anything with her in the house).
and when trying to make dinner, she would be on top of me trying to get to the counter.
WAS ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR ADVICE FROM OWNERS THAT HAVE THEIR DOGS "OUTSIDE" WHILE THEY WENT TO WORK.!!!!!! NOT ONES THEY DONT. ARE PEOPLE THAT DONT OWN A HUSKY. THATS WHY I PUT 'ONLY OWNERS OF HUSKIES" AND ONES THAT KEEP THEIR DOGS OUTSIDE.

THANKS AGAIN FOR MAKING ME MORE FRIGHTENED!!!! IN OHIO. THANKS ALOT.!!! JERKS!!!
maybe I will just give the dog away now. since this. while daughter at school.

Some of the posters here are correct. There are many people who steal animals for use in labratories, dog fights, or for their own use or sale. You should never let your animal outside for extended periods of time when you are not home. You are just asking for trouble keeping her outside. What you need to do in terms of her chasing the cats and pestering you while you are cooking is train her. If she's not been trained to NOT do these things, she doesn't know any better.

You should be able to leave her outside and not feel guilty as long as you have proper place for her to go to get away from the cold and wind. You can get a really nice dog house that keeps heat in, and put some blankets and pillows in there for her. Most dogs sleep during the day anyways. Does she bark a lot while outside? Because that could be disturbing to the neighbors. Is she secured so no one can steal her??

Whether you have it inside or outside, you shouldn't have gotten a dog of any breed if you weren't going to make the committment to spend time with it. I'm sure you didn't have a problem playing with it when it was a puppy.

I work and I try to make time to play with my dog, even if it's for only 10 minutes a day. The other thing is we got a second dog, so if we don't have time to play with them, then they play with each other.

Maybe you could "bribe" the teenager to get off the video games?? Maybe you could tell her that if she wants to play her games she has to take care of the dog?

i got two dogs, the other is a staffy, and she has REALLY helped with my huskys behaviour, because the staffy is always overly eager to please me, then the husky gets jealous of the attention the staffy gets, so she behaves as well.. my dogs arent outside when i'm not there, they are in the garage/laundry (it's a big area). but when i'm home, they come inside, or they go outside, which ever they choose.. i play with my dogs as often as i can. they are my world.

For his own safety, I would definitely keep him inside while at work. There are horrible people out there who are involved in "dog brokering". I saw a documentary on this recently and it was heartwrenching to see family dogs that were stolen out of their yards and then sold to these "brokers" who in turn sold them to labs for experimenting. Please bring him inside.

**GOOD. it's the best thing you can do for that poor dog! APPARENTLY NO ONE ELSE HERE IS THAT HEARTLESS TO LEAVE THEIR DOG OUTSIDE ALL FREAKIN' DAY. Sorry you didn't get the answer you WANTED!**

i have a samoyed and i live in Ohio also. ours is a house dog. we used to have a husky and he was a house dog also. i always felt that if i was going to have a dog it would be part of the family inside the house. your way is fine also, i just prefer to have them inside.
