The needles are sterilized because a stay of execution could be granted right at the last minute whereas the lines are prepared in advance.Also any organs that are donated avoid getting infected.

I know! I wondered about that too - bizarre! Perhaps having germs on the needle might change the autopsy results (they still do that I think).

for two reasons :
1.Death is supposed to be with the Drug Only..so if the Drug didn't cause Death,it won't be caused by Infection..
2.In Order Not to introduce Bacteria into the blood stream aggrevating the putrefaction process..
