Those are a sad exuse for friends. You need to go out, look for
a person that interests you then start a conversation and go from there.

Think about things you are interested in and go out and do those things, in that way perhaps you can meet girls who do the things you like. That way you don't have to think that hard about flirting etc, since you already have something in common to talk about and do together. Also the more active you are, the less you think about how alone you are, and the more interesting you are to other potential partners/dates.
I felt that same "too old" feeling after breaking up with my boyfriend of 3 1/2 years a while back, just give it time, I love the fact that I'm single and dating now.
You could also get a dog. I know that sounds funny but they are great companions and help the feeling of being so alone - and walking a dog is a great way to meet members of the opposite sex ("Do you know where I can get my dog some water?" is one someone used on me before, and it worked)

first off join the club
i was in my 30's when i left my hubby of almost 20 yrs and had to start over
being alone is not bad being lonley is
call your old friend catch up on old times if they were real friends they will be there for you
you will be surprised how many miss you too
take it slow i was alone with a son for 8 yrs before i met my mr right and trust me it was well worth the wait
also find new friends from work or sports join a club or gym or join a sports club find real ppl to talk too
in the end the fates do not win in this game it just takes time

U r 26, the right age to flirt. All the ripe mature ladies are waiting for u, and they want their share of the fun too. Why did you wait all these 8 years and 4 months ?

there is always light at the end of the tunnel, move on i know its hard to do the first step but just take it day by day,you still have a lot of living to do,at 26 you are still young you can still find some good people to be called friends, and you also have a chance to look for a much better girl than you have before just think positive and good luck to you

Go out and socialize. Also you can put an ad in the personal ad section in the newspaper. You'll get an answer quickly because there are a lot of people in the same boat as you.

I don't know that this helps, but I noticed that Iranian/Persian women are very attractive.
After you overthrow the mullahs, things will improve.
