I will assume that you are using Internet Explorer. The following often works, and fixes many errors:
Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, Delete All Offline Content, OK.

This clears the cache on the hard disk.

This should be part of a prevention and maintenance schedule.

I run AVG Antivirus while on the Internet, also Zone Alarm firewall. I scan afterwards with Lavasoft Adaware.

For general maintenance I use Norton's Windoctor and Speed Disk. I also use scandisk. I could use defrag in Windows, but there I use Speed Disk instead.
