I pay $ 100.00 a week to a private tutor and I wnat to know if I can claim this on my taxes? I live in NJ in the US.

I live in IN, and am unsure if state laws are the same. However, under Education Credits, it has to be a "qualifying expense" details can be found in Form 8863.

Extremely unlikely. Like the rest of us who can't claim our kids' basic tuition either.

If you could characterize it as after-school child care you could claim some of it, but you would have to disclose the name and SSN of the person you have hired. Don't count on that happening anytime soon.
