I have been teaching Design Technology in Scotland for nearly 10 years. I fancy a new challenge. Please can anyone suggest where to find information on vacancies, exchanges, British schools abroad etc.

Here's the website address for the Council of International Schools - check their website for job listings all over the world:
http://www.cois.org/recruitment/Select_Vacancy.asp?Subject=%25&Country=%25&B1=Submit

Or you could google international schools and contact them direct.

I am Irish and I have lived abroad most of my working life and like you, I am a teacher (I am a Literature Prof). I presently live in Italy as my wife is Italian, though I have lived and worked in over 44 countries (so far!)

My only suggestion to you, because it is the ONLY thing that works, is use all the contacts you have to put the word out that you are searching for something new. It really depends where you want to go. I presume you have a degree and a teaching qualification of some sort.

This website www.tefl.com is for those who want to teach English abroad, but it often contains other types of teaching jobs too. (You need to register to apply for the jobs). Plus, there is always the British Council, as well as a large number of volunteer organisations.

Living abroad is NEVER easy, and from what you say above, you have no experience of doing this. So, be sure, unlike so many people I have met on my travels, that you are doing it with the idea that it is NOT a permanent holiday in the sun somewhere. You will be cheated, over-worked, and badly housed - at least until you know how the system works.

Good luck to you.

You could always try NABSS - National Association for British Schools in Spain - they have a website I think.

There are 47 International Schools in Spain, so you might find something from one of them.

Hope it helps.

I'm teaching in Japan now.

I taught here for six years before, then I went home to Miami for two years, and then I came back to Japan about four months ago.

PM me or email me if you want to talk about it. My email is encarnacionjulia@yahoo.com .
