You can get a bit paranoid when you are alone in the woods or mountains but I don't deny that something or someone might be watching you. That something could be the animals or creatures in the woods or mountains. That someone could be spiritual beings or even God Himself. Probably they like those enviroment where there are less people. In Chinese folklore, there are gods in the woods or mountains guarding them. And they sometimes appear to humans.

I feel like God is closer when I'm out in the mountains and that He's all around me.

Very much so. The fact is that we are being watched all the time but the noise and distractors of city life prevent us from feeling it or reading the signals. All our senses awaken in solitude and we realise we really are in the presence of Allah, as we always are.
Peace

The eyes of the LORD is upon you, HE's watchful
towards you . . think about this. we are on a 24/7
video camera.
So beloved of the LORD there's a little song . .that goes . . . .
you little feet, you careful where you go . .
you little hands, be carefull what you touch
you little eyes, be carefull what you see . .
and all the little parts in yoiu . . .

Yup. I am watched by all the little animals who are probably wondering if I'm going to rape their environment.

Watched?I'm watched everywhere I go. I feel their eyes on me. They watch everything I do. The piercing glares burn me, I can feel it penetrating my skin like a hot iron. Why won't they leave me alone....

probably cuz you are... animals don't really like humans much... I wonder why? even in the shaman creation stories this is evident.

It's our instinctive feeling of self-preservation. We are on guard, so that we can defend ourselves if attacked.
