When you look at me
All that you can see
is the scarf that covers my hair
My words you can't hear
because you're too full of fear,
mouth gaping, all you do is stare

You think it's not my choice
in your own "liberation" rejoice.
You think I'm uneducated,
trapped, oppressed and subjugated,
You're so thankful that you're free.

But non-Muslim woman you've got it wrong
You're the weak and I'm the strong.
For I've rejected the trap of man.
Fancy clothes - low neck, short skirt
those are devices for pain and hurt.
I'm not falling for that little plan.

I'm a person with ideas and thought.
I'm not for sale, I can't be bought.
I'm me - not a fancy toy,
I won't decorate anyone's arm,
nor be promoted for my charm.
There is more to be than playing coy.

Living life as a balancing game - mother,
daughter, wife, nurse, cleaner, cook, lover
and still bring home a wage.
Who thought up this modern "freedom"?
Where man can love'em and man can leave'em.
This is not free, but life in a cage.
Always jumping to a male agenda
competing on his terms.
No job share, no creche facilities,
no feeding and nappy changing amenities
No time off for menstrual pain,
"hormones" they laugh "what a shame"
No equal pay equal skill
your job they can always fill.
No promotion unless you're sterilised.
No promotion unless you're sexually terrorised.
And this is liberation?

Non-Muslim woman you can have your life.
Mine - it has less strife.
I cover and I get respected,
surely that's to be expected,
for I won't demean the feminine,
I won't live to male criterion,
I dance to my own tune
and I hope you see this very soon.
For your own sake - wake up and use your sight.
Are you so sure that you are right?

Is this a FAITH slam, or cultural> I do believe u mean to slam BOTH, and I have to agree with SO MUCH of what you are saying.....even though, I believe in JESUS.

I am a mother of FOUR. I was married before I had my children, and all four of my children are from the same man I married. I hate what "AMERIcA" has become, I hate that-I, as a woman, wife and mother, like many others....has the unfortunate life of playing so many "roles". But, this change cannot come from the family unit, as we cannot control the cost of living.

I believe in dressing with discretion, I believe in moral dignity. I am not unlike you, in many of your claims. I believe in the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob....I believe in JESUS as the Only way to heaven, but heaven is not my home....GOD ALMIGHTY IS. Heaven could mean a million things, but to just abide, and eternally remain in the sacrificial presense of my Holy Lord--to me; is heaven.

I hate that american culture is nothing more than cattle, following their master: which is altogether MEDIA. I know who controls these media outlets, I know that the truth of the middle east is hidden from the minds of us westerners, by the two different versions of newsweek that are put out. American womens do not care about virtue, morality, discretion or dignity, they throw all that off of them, as they do thier own clothes. It is INSANE how such hoards of people can follow every new trend, or buy the right products. OR MORE IMPORTANTLY....ALLOW THE CONSTANT ANNHILIATING OF OUR CONSTITUTION, AND THUS REMAIN DUMBED DOWN BY THE NATIONAL ELITE.

You and I are not too different,
I actually enjoyed the poem alot.

GOD bless you for your integrity, and I pray that the Lord leads you always in the directions that HE would have you to go.
Amen.

There is nothing wrong in Love between A Non-Muslim Man and Muslim Woman, but a Non-Muslim man will never marry a Muslim girl. He might use them but when it comes to marriage they will not be ready. Muslim girls are not trust worthy.

I am a non-Muslim woman, married to a Muslim man and living in a Muslim country. I love your poem and all that it conveys. Unfortunately so many people here are influenced by the media and cannot bring themselves to believe the truth, even when it is told by an actual Muslim.

Bless you, Sister.

Sister even when you make it clear we are free and liberated from the trappings of modern women, breast implants, revealing clothes, pandering to the male eye, they still dont believe you.
Well sister I for one applaud your efforts. I KNOW I'm liberated, I KNOW I'm free, I KNOW I'm respected by my Muslim brothers and sister, I KNOW all you have stated is true.
Let them live in ignorance.

Seeking Answers...........This persons condescending reply to look at a christian web site, its laughable. Why does she not look further into wearing what we do and see it from our point of view, instead of trying to tell us we are wrong.

In spite of the attitude you attempted to convey in this posting, I can't help noticing that you chose an avatar of a woman without a head covering, even though you could have easily picked any other image or photo including a photo of a woman wearing the traditional scarf. That says more to me than your poem ever could.
