In the bigger cities, this is true for the general public. Lawyers of course are never separated from their phones. You take away a lawyer's phone and they'll actually bleed from the separation. LOL

In most smaller cities, at least here in Michigan, it's not an issue. You obviously can't use it in the court room, but they don't begrudge you the possession of your phone, and use thereof in the rest of the buildings.

In New York, you cannot use your cell phone inside a courthouse, you can't even get a signal, but they don't take your phone away. I hope your friend got his phone back!

In some counties, in Texas everyone walks in with their cell phone and gets to keep it with them. Matter of fact, most employees use them through out the day for personal calls.

No offense why would you take a cell phone into a court house? A court house is for criminal/civil business not to conduct personal business, like is Marcia going out with Billy! In MA your asked to leave it at home or your car. People lives are having their faith awaited but god for bid you miss out with a phone call.

Do your self a favor leave it at home; let the judge, jury and lawyers precide over their case.

In our court house they are allowed. But in the court room's the cell must be turned off. If they ring while the judge is on the bench you are subject to being fined.
