Terrorists want the people so afraid that they pressure the government to cave into their demands. Sometimes, terrorists even get a percentage of the people to join them, either physically or with financing out of fear.
Theses terror groups feel that death and destruction to the people is a legitimate tool for change, and have no sense of guilt over their deeds.

Don't be foolish. If not for money, none of these horrible events would have occurred. Horrible events such as 9/11, the bombings of Lebanon, the hundreds of thousands of deaths in the middle east, the occupation of Palestine, the freedom stripped drafted soldiers, the rapes, the killing, the drug problems in the ghettos, the stealing, the chaos. The goal behind the orchestrators of all of this is, was, and will be total domination of this planet. It's a new world order. Novus Ordo Seclorum. You're either with it or against it. We feed it with our consumer needs, and they fund it with our taxes.
See beyond the overseas boundaries, the Americans are working with the Middle Easterners together. And together with the Europeans. I could have told you that all of this would happen before 9/11. This is nothing new. The NWO controls everything that the weak-minded individual thinks because they've successfully trained him to rely on being told what to think.
Step up and see the bigger picture before you become a nothing. Because when you're a nothing you own no opinion above the opinion they've set for you.
Now you're probably thinking, who are "they", well, read the answer to this question asked by "Dropping Knowledge":

See, the thing is, war will always be a great investment. Until the end of time.
Peace and blessings.

Radical Islamic fundamentalists are taught from a very early age that their god (the moon god Allah) demands total allegiance from everyone on earth. According to Mohamed's teaching there are no other religions that are acceptable. To put it simply the mission of these people is to rule the earth in the name of Allah and to use any means they can to accomplish this goal. You either get converted or you die. They don't think like we do. Life here doesn't have the same importance to them as it does to us. As we all have heard they will gladly kill themselves to kill the infidel (you and me). Their real life supposedly starts in their heaven. Now I and I hope you all think this is crazy and even evil. So how do we deal with them? Talk to them? We've tried and tried it doesn't seem to work. Can we change their hearts by showing them a different way? Hopefully the young ones will see a democracy in Iraq one day and maybe choose living free and in peace over killing and hatred. But in the meantime we need to crush the ones that we are fighting take away their will to fight. In order to show the next generation a better way of life. Sorry but I just don't feel sory for them nor blame the United States or the the free world for how they believe. This evil religion has been around long before we were here.

Terrorist behavior is the foremost characteristic of the totally frustrated individual. When all else fails to get them the attention they desire, then they turn to terrorist tactics. It seems that suicide bombing has become the ultimate attention getter, but because that is becoming so common the public is beginning to ignore it. The terrorists will not give up, however: they will just get more frustrated than they are today and begin to look for other ways to make a bigger splash. Frustration is a disease that knows no cure except peace. Suicide is no peace, however, because it sends a frustrated soul to hell and there can be no peace in hell. The only answer for the frustrated person is the peace of Jesus Christ.

What are terrorist after?
The simple answer is they want to inflict terror.
But if youre going to attempt to bring some sort of resolve and agreement that would neutralize the behavior, and bring about peace, well then I will ask you this question.
What does one who murders want?
Is the easy answer, to kill?
Or is it to manifest an inner pain, or hatred to others caused by an inner pain?
Understanding the pain, is the first step to preventing other murderers from committing the like.
Notice how I say other murderers.
Because it is highly unlikely that this generation of terrorist will allow any negotiations or attempts at compromise.
But, the next generation or generations to come might be more inclined to be more enlightnened and allow efforts of peace to be taken.
These terorists arent the animals we make them out to be. They are human. They have strong religious convictions. They have also been killed raped and betrayed by some governments .. yes the U.S.
We train them, equipm them, then trun our back on them after we led them to believe we will fight with them.
U.S. has done it in IRAQ and in Afganistan.
Research who trained and equiped al queda
So, what you have is anger combined with religious differences that bring about opposing sides.
Until both sides step towards peace we will always have one side committint atrocities and the other side forced to stop those that commit atrocities.
Hope it sheds some light
P.S. Addition after reading a few remarks
Terrorists dont just want to destroy.
Terrorists want their own definition of peace, and safety.
But when a country has raped murderd thousands, what would you want to do to them
Our aim should be to fnd out exactly what the difinition of peace these terrorist strive for.
Even IRAN, who would destroy Israel if they had the means to, could have a change of heart if they were to sit down with Isreal and really find out tht we are all one in the same. But its pride that prevents us from efforting for peace.
Hatred is easier to most.

The terrorists want nothing more than for our gov't to pull our troops out of that region. They SAY "leave us alone and we'll leave you alone..."
...But, when all seems peaceful, they WILL begin waging their "culture of death" on the world, including the USA.
Beware of these politicians who say "bring the troops home." They don't care about the US military. They have a hidden agenda: they want Bush to fail.
9/11...may we never forget....

What do they need from your country? Nothing, but they will take what ever they can and what ever you will hand over to them.
What do terrorists expect your government to do? To try and compromise with them. But I doubt that the terrorist will accept any compromise unless they believe they can take advantage of that compromise.
And I think this is probably true for nearly every country.

Terrorists want nothing from you.
They kill and blow things up because they wish to "make the world know of their anger"... but if they are left in charge (like Somalia, or Afghanistan) they dont know what to do and they end up killing more and more people.
Kashmir, Somolia, Darfur, Palestine, Lebanon, etc etc etc....
They are too stupid to think beyond the end of their machineguns, and their supporters are just as stupid.

Find who and what is the root cause of terrorism. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. This is a cycle from either side.
