For the same reason the cup of hot coffee you buy has a warning that the contents inside are hot. There is always a dimwit out there somewhere who won't connect sleeping pills with drowsiness. After McD's paid out the big bucks to the lady who scalded her own legs putting the hot coffee cup in between her legs sued, we have been bombarded with lame warning labels stating what should be obvious to anyone with a functioning brain. But fear of future suits has brought us to life with the warnings for dummies.

The thing is: there is a final phase of medicine tests all pharmaceutical labs preform, to know what side effects may be expected; these tests are done with people, of course, divided into 2 groups: one taking the real medicine and the other taking a placebo (they do not know they are actually taking something innocuous). They compare both groups' descriptions on how they feel when taking that medicine.
Within the group of people that are really taking the medicine, they take note of every little thing that a person has felt; for example: if you repeat your beans and chili meal five times and then throw up everything, when you are taking the medicine, they will have to put on the bulletin that it may cause vomiting; if you drink 10 cups of coffee and your heart races up like crazy, they will have to put that it may cause "palpitations"... You see, in the bulletin appear stuff that may not even have the slightest chance of happening due to the medicine, but it is there. Therefore, sometimes you have on bulletins side effects divided by probability of happening.

Anyway, in this particular case, sleeping pills may well cause drowsiness, they are made to help you sleep so they induct a state of numbness in your body that, if you try to fight back, you may start feeling drow... Nothing bad, I assure you.
