15 billion years from now when all that is left is a cold empty universe ... do you really want to still regret that 3rd wish the Genie gave you?
Seriously ... there is no reason why all the parts of the body that fail cannot be theoretically replaced. We are well on our way to having everything figured out except for the brain, and give that another 300 years. And figure that if you could live to 150 medical advances would be able to "extend" you the rest of the way.
Can you make it that long ... unfortunately probably not. Frustrating isn't it. It's like being at the end of a marathon and tripping paralyzed just inches from the finish line. You can see it, you just can't get there.
For a window on the possibility of immortality read what I consider the most important piece of science fiction ever written. It is "The Gentle Seduction" by Marc Stiegler. Find it here.

This is very interesting. According to scientists, after we are passed reproductive age, evolution hasen;t specified what happens to us as we are no longer in a position to pass on our DNA and therefore the 'fittest gene survival' doesn;t apply anymore. You could, therfore, live forever if you could control cell regeneration as you still contain within your DNA all the instructions to build you as you had when you were a feotus.
I think the question should be though - who would actualy really want to live forever?

i'd hate to stay continually, a minimum of in this existence. Now if we had a paranormal button that would want to enable us change, at any time, to a distinct existence or to become a distinct man or woman, then yeah, i'd be up for residing continually. yet i'm already searching ahead to my death because i do not quite like the existence that i have were given at present. And it truly is puzzling as hell to regulate it.
