Are they implying tha my English is weird? Should I take offense?

I know a man from Scotland who people often think is from Australia. Sometimes people just don't have enough exposure to different dialects to tell the difference.

No Not in the least, have lots of Aussie friends here in Vietnam, they are a bit hard for me to understand, but no big deal

Take it as a compliment .....I have travelled the world and anyone who speaks english has not only understood me, I think because oz english is simple and direct, but for some reason , they also seem to take to me,,,in a good way that is. Baie lekker.

aussie sounds pretty muck like cockney or welsh or scott to me, I can't tell them apart, I think neither americans nor most foreigners could either.
