Years ago the doctor prescribed Guinness to my mum as she was so underweight. It didn't work for her though. It does have iron content. Men who drink a lot of it seem to develop an amazing beer gut, maybe women process it differently.

It may work as well as daily aspirin in preventing blood clots. This could be completely because of the alcohol.
As far as Iron goes, a pint of guinness contains 0.3mg of Iron. A bit short of the reccommended daily intake of 11mg for men, and 14 mg for women.

The only benefit over other kinds of beer is that it's richer in iron.
But that can be said of all stouts so why not drink something that doesn't taste like dishwater, O'Hanlons Dry Stout or Port Stout come to mind.

Guiness Stout: There's the iron benefit, and the potty entertainment, but it also is surprisingly low calorie. A friend of mine switches to that one when he's dieting. Pretty tasty considering.

The biggest benefit, in addition to all the other answers already given, is the fun in seeing it come out the same colour as it went in. Clearly one must drink sufficient quantity to achieve this minor miracle - but the satisfaction is unsurpassable.

Guiness has a high iron content, which is why it used to be recommended for pregnant women and the elderly.

if you think the bottom has fallen out of your world then drink 10 pints of guiness and watch the world fall out of your bottom
there is no significant amounts of iron ( that was the old bottled stuff that used to ferment in the bottle)

I think it is the iron. My vet told me once to give it to my horse in his feed. He progressed to drinking it out of his own mug. Too bitter for my liking though!
