Well if you want the explaination of windows 98 and windows xp then i can explain it to you

Win98 built up on windows 95 technology

Windows XP built on NT Technology.

Windows XP was built after Windows 2000 and it's said that windows xp was made by modifying the windows 2000 so you can say the main platform for windows xp was 2000

windows 98 main platform was windows 95.

Then win98 was running on dos and windows xp is having it's own dos shell

windows xp is providing far better features then windows 98. The graphics is the main thing, then comes the facilities and security.

before it was very easy to crack 98 now it's not that much easy to crack windows xp

so in short you can say
Main difference between Windows XP and Windows 98 is

More Facilities, More security, More covenient and easy to use

have a nice day

There are lots of differences... win98 dates from 1998 and is Microsoft's view of how to make a GUI that runs on top of DOS for a 1998 PC. WinXp dates from about 2002 and is Microsoft's view of how to make a GUI that doesn't runon top of DOS for a 2002 PC... so it does a lot lot more.

Win98 is no longer supported by Microsoft, so any bugs in it won't be fixed. It's unstable, unreliable and new peripherals often don't have drivers for it. Win XP is (juat about )not current but is still supported so Microsoft *may* fix bugs in it. Its more stable, more reliable and most peripherals have drivers for it if they need them.

the diffrence is day and night win98 is dos based while xp is not xp takesover where 98 could not go more data access more memory access more hard drive capacity access 98 has a limit you could only go so high on memory and hardrive space so dont be those people on 2009 with a win98 machine software is tailored for xp not 98 and 98 is not supported by microsoft ,no more update, no more fixes thats it for 98 end of life for that product! stick withit if your corprate or a bisness that has specific software that only runs on an old o/s its up to you!
