It means if you are not sure about a person - look at those people this person chooses to associate with to get a better idea of what this person is like.

Good Luck!!!

The word "pen" might be seen as an allegory for the will of the person or people. Real change only really occurs with the will to do so. You can force a person or nation to change (sword), but in the end, all that is brought about is resentment, and second they get a chance to, people change back. Look at the Polish people. Look at how many times Poland was invaded through the centuries: the Russians, the Germans. And yet they remained Polish. They maintained their ideals. The idea never died. And when the media broadcast the Solidarity movement, everyone rallied for their cause. This is but one example; I doubt this page would be large enough to show you them all. The pen really IS mightier than the sword.

I think it can mean a lof of thing to different people:

- when you are not sure you know this person well, look at his friends, ask them what they think about this character

- Look at some of his closest friends, the ones this character chooses to spend time with and associate. This might give indication of this character.

- ask the friends to introduce you to this character...you want to know more..

- I don't really understand his behavior/actions to me...ask the friends..

and so on..

A person's friends, through their actions, conversation, body language, emotions etc. give an indication of their opinion of the "unclear character."

A person's character is sometimes defined by the people that he/she associates with and the environment and society that surrounds him/her.So,for example, how a person talks, carry himself/herself or dresses may be a picture of who or what kind of friends,he/she has.

Have you ever heard of the saying....show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are? It's pretty much the same, if you can't figure out someone, look at who his friends are and you will understand him/her better.

when you are unable to judge someone by his conduct, as it can be difficult at times & the person might be fooling you to show a character he have'nt actualy got then there's a way... LOOK AT HIS FRIENDS
see wat kind of people they are, how they behave, there public reputation etc etc
this will help you judge what kind of people that person prefers as friends
