average age for those first steps is 14 months though it varies greatly. I had one of mine walk at 13 months one at 17 months. Talking .....well it's your first so it is exciting but the time will come when you long for the days they don't talk Lol. They learn to talk back, to argue to fight but most of all they learn the worst word a toddler can say......NO!

I come from a family of 10 with 9 siblings,5 older and 4 younger. I helped raise the younger ones and many nieces and nephews. Then there children. I have 1 of my own and also a grandson. I learned that every child has it's own rate of doing things. There is a different rate for development in every child. There is however an estimated time by doctors, but every child is unique in there own way. I have a niece that has a baby girl that is 16 months old and not walking yet. She is talking but not ready to walk. Your child will walk and talk when it is ready. Don't do alot of baby talking to it ,talk to it in a normal tone and do alot of explaining of things. Instead of carrying the child hold it's hand and walk with it. It won't be long before you are asking "why can't I keep up with this child" Good luck and be patient.

Please--relax! Congrats on one yr. and his standing, holding onto furniture! That is exciting! Every child develops and learns to do things at their own pace. And one thing too, is at this time, please appreciate the fact that he is not walking fully on his own right this second-'cause when he does-you will be even busier keeping an eye on him and everywhere he goes! Enjoy!

DON"T WORRY! All babies do things differently. My kids were walking before they were 1 but my cousins baby started when she was 16 months.
mine and my cousins kids started talking when they were closer to 2.
Ur boy is a NORMAL 1 yr old! Trust me once they walk and talk u sometimes wish they didn't LOL.

Try not to worry. My son didnt start walking until he was 13 months, yet my daughter was 9 months.Talk to your health visitor about your sons development. The main thing is he's fit and healthy. When he does start walking you'll need eyes up your backside.

He's still young. Don't worry.
He doesn't have to be walking by 1 yr and definitely not talking.
If you see that by fourteen months he's not taking steps ask your pediatrician for advice.
