I did pretty well on the general section of the ASVAB and qualify for all of the jobs but two or three. I don't qualify to be a cop, because i coudn't lift enought weight. should i worry about the job that I will get. Is guarenteed apt General a bad idea... pleas only speak from experience not out of ignorance, or ill-will towards military service

By enlisting under a "General Aptitude", you will be offered jobs based on you General Aptitude score of the ASVAB. You will get a job choice in your fifth week of Basic Training. The list will have those fields that have slots available with the ones really needed to be filled at the top. The jobs in the General Aptitude area are quite varied. You should easily find something to your liking.

While you are in basic, you will meet with career councilors and be given a list of General area jobs to request. What they will do, is look at your score and what the needs of the Air Force are and then give you a list to choose from. You will be able to choose 5 fields and rank your choice 1-5. You are not guaranteed to get any of those 5, but I've never heard of anyone who didn't.

My hubby has been Navy for 10 years. We have met people who have started out general and regretted it. I suggest choosing a job that is interesting to you. And think ahead, what schools are available for the various jobs that could make you valuable in the civilian world. For instance, my hubby went corpsman, then biomed tech, and now advance biomend tech. In the civilian world he would make a decent living working under contracts for hospitals. Also look at what jobs are getting the re-enlistment bonuses. It's all about making yourself valuable and getting what you can from the military.
