I had efiled my tax return through an online tax software. It stated to be that it should be approved by the IRS in 24-48 hours. It has been 4 days and my efile has not been approved nor denied. Any reasons for this?

I've never done this online, but when I worked with the IRS, we always received our confirmations overnight.

If you've been waiting awhile, I'd call. There are a number of things that can trip up the process, such as wrong social, wrong bank number, wrong bank routing number, wrong name on account, etc.

One of the most common problems we had were women who tried to file joint but had never bothered to change to their married name with the Social Security Administration. This is an automatic reject due to name and social not matching.

Another thing you need to be careful of is getting your bank information wrong and having your refund go into someone else's account. It's actually difficult to get that money back.

Before you check, do you know if any of the deductions you claimed were extended in December. That would be things like the state sales tax deduction, education credits and deductions, student loan interest and the supplies deduction for educators. I can't remember the whole list of the top of my head

If you have any of that, the return cannot be processed until February 3rd. Do you have a hard copy of your return? Take a look and see if there are any cryptic letters next to any figures. That will probably indicate that you are one of the affected taxpayers.

If none of this applies, you need to be speaking with your provider ASAP. Four days is far too long. what about your state return? Is it a piggy-back return or stand-alone? If it is stand alone (ie you compute your state tax from scratch rathe than just taking the federal taxable income) and you haven't had confirmation from then either, you definitely need to be calling your provider.

It should have been acknowledged by now. Call and find out what's up.
