Humanity didn't "evolve" the internet. People constantly misuse the word evolve. The internet was invented by Tim Berners-Lee as a means of sharing computer information across continents very quickly. He never imagined it would become the amazing phenomenon it is, but we should be thankful.
Oh, and on the topic of Religion and Spirituality, which this question really isn't - Tim Berners-Lee is another atheist you have to thank for making your life better.

OK Rubix, my bad - I'll leave above as it relates to the WWW more, I keep overlooking the distinction. TBL developed the first html-like code, which we use on web pages, at CERN. The internet is something older, and bigger, but related.

Because rulers love to record their existence. The rulers want to live forever, and the power of recording events is very amazing.
People will record everything, for "posterity", Their biography, or their to-do-list, written by their wife.
The Internet is just a storage tools, not an advancement in humanities mental or intellect state.
It is just another tool rulers use to record their life, and that of their country.
Tools usually evolve when a need is present, that has no tools capable handle the required parameters of the ruler. (A ruler in today's world is corparate as well as political)
Mr Jobs, et'al, will not record their life on rock carving, or paper. The very idea!

Actually Bad, the Internet wasn't invented to share information across continents, the Internet evolved from ARPANET, which was developed by the US military to keep communications amongst key military bases alive in the event of nuclear attack from the communist USSR.

I like Godknown's answer... the Golden Age... implying a temporal state.
I like the internet for its potential, much like my admiration for humanity itself. I see it as a tool, much like the library... misused and damaged. An orafice for communication. It helps us communicate on a large spectrum... especially those who aren't able to do so otherwise. It helps bridge a gap...

The Internet reflects the interior dimension which connects all beings. In other words, everyone has their private inner world, and all the inner worlds are 'contained' within a larger inner world, similar to the way our outer worlds are contained within a larger outer world. (remember the phrase; 'welcome to my world'?) Many of mankind's inventions are reflections of the natural abilities of consciousness. The telephone is a reflection of the characteristic called telepathy.

Does Illumination have a stopping point, a barrier that it cannot cross? Something I find interesting is that someone once said "there is so much in eternity, that time is needed to "play" it out".
