Sexual side effects are a possibility with any antidepressant, but Effexor is supposed to have a lesser likelihood of causing decreased sexual desire. Is there anything else going on that the 'dry spell' could be related to, like added stress or perhaps the depression itself?

Effexor is known to cause increased blood pressure; I have normal-low BP usually but it was normal-high when I was on Effexor. If it is above a normal range consistently (generally anything over 140/90 is a big red flag, as this range is considered hypertension), you should definitely bring it up with your doctor. If you're healthy and the BP increase still keeps you within the normal range and you are not having side effects, you shouldn't worry much, but it's still probably a good idea to mention it to the Dr.

It sounds like you've taken Effexor before, so you probably know what it's like to come off of it. If not, here's just a note of personal experience: if you decide to stop taking it, taper your dosage slowly and under constant supervision, by both your Doctor and your fiancee. The withdrawal effects that I experienced from this drug were debilitating and horrible, and you may enter into strange psychological states during withdrawal. If you stop taking it be careful, please! I had to quit my job to get off of the medication.

I had to be taken off of effexor only because my blood pressure is already very high with out it and it made it higher. It would for me I was not depressed when I took it it worked great for me other then the blood pressure.

well it was not like that. I had really good results with effexor for my depression, proably the best drug that i had taken for depression. My blood pressure was ok, it really did not go up. AS i always say it really depends on the person each of us is different and these meds react different for all of us. No it did not kill my sex drive neither.

You should mention this to the doctor who prescribed it for you.
