I'm only 19 years old. The numbness has been affecting me for the past 6-8 months or so. There has only been pain on one occasion. There was an intense throbbing pain right where my left arm bends that lasted for several minutes. The left side of my body is always very unresponsive (my face/neck/head, however, are not affected).. My arm and hand in particular. For instance, if I quickly open and close both hands multiple times as fast as I can, the left one takes longer and my fingers sometimes move in undesired directions or twitch. My leg also frequently goes numb.I am aware that this is a symptom of stroke/heart disease, but I was wondering if anything else could be the cause, or whom I should see about the problem.

To start you should see a neurologist that specializes in neuromuscular disorders. S/He will be able to help determine what's going on through various tests including a possible MRI, labs, nerve testing, etc. You should, however, not wait around any longer and go see a doctor right away. There are so many possible disorders that could be the cause. Some of which are very major, some rather minor but it's not wise to wait.

at first i was thinking that you have thoracic outlet syndrome or brachial nerve paralysis on your left shoulder and hand, but in the end you stated that you are also having numbness on your left leg. you are young at 19 to have stroke. the best advice is to go to a neurologist as soon as possible before your condition gets worst. he is the one who can help you.
