The Lumix series of Panasonic has very well lenses and the one I know (not the DMCFZ50K) has a large optical zoom, something that can't be found for a similar price with Canon.

I have a panasonic FZ-20 & it is good for what it does ,all in one camera , they do get very noisy any thing over 200ISO , DSLR prices are coming down all the time , you could get a Nikon D50 now for same kind of money as the panasonic .
It will not do 28-300mm without spending more money on another lens but it is in a different league when it comes preformance

hey let me tell u if u looking to buy a camera go for traditional camera company. cannon are time tested in the field of camera and optics. and Panasonic is a new comer in case of camera market i wold suggest u to go for cannon which have better clarity and better lenses.
