Lets say I have a certain length of rope. How do I tie a harness and be able to rappell off of something? Like what do I have to tie to slow my fall? If I only have this rope.

Simple answer is that you can't go off a cliff with just one rope; you also have to have a harness and a belay device, like a figure eight. Swiss seat instructions are at http://home.arcor.de/varn/rappel/swiss_seat.htm but you better do it a few times with someone who's an expert. Someone mentioned a body rappell. Don't do that. It works very well, but if you maek a mistake you will get hurt. Very hurt.

Really, the answer to your question is to find someone who goes rapelling and learn from them.

you use a body rapel which is a way to run the line around your legs and body. if you have a caribener you can use a swiss seat and an over the shoulder rapel.
