the Europeans did have their own gods, but it was the church that believed that every person in Europe should believe in the Christian god, So not only did the church stop these people from practicing the religion but they would take something from that religion and assimilate it into the church to attract more people.

Most of the old beliefs were assimilated by the Roman Catholic church, but yes there are still groups that worship the Old Gods...

Yeah there's battalions of ancient gods and goddesses, armies of gods. They don't get very much work these day but Pagans specialize in them. Makes them feel clever to pretend to worship some obscure old god nobody else ever heard of. You can look them up in a book called Tired Old Gods & Godesses for Dummys.

A better question is why don't americans--all gods worshipped in america come from another country(including the native americans, since their reservations are not considered part of the country)

they had celtic gods, norse gods, roman gods, all kinds of gods. then all of the old religions got wiped out, although there are some revivalists today who are trying to bring them back.
