The "Dark Ages" is a derogatory term for the European Middle Ages used by Protestants to trivialize and demonize the Catholic Church of the time.

The term referred to a supposed lack of learning in the period. Actually, the Middle Ages were not really so "dark."

Christianity has not had a downfall. There are more Christians alive today (over 2 billion) than at any other time in history.

With love in Christ.

The dark ages were a result of absolute power being in the hands of the church. They suppressed knowledge that they did not agree with or whose origins were before the birth of christ. This meant that all of the knowledge of the greeks (with the exception of some of Plato's work) was hidden. All of the knowledge of the eastern scholars was hidden. The church even refused to accept the concept of a number for 0 for a long tome.

Anybody who disagreed with the mainstream philosophy was put to death. Even Copernicus was too frightened to publish his findings.

The Knights Templar became powerful throughout the crusades were exterminated because they became a threat to the church's dominance.

Many of these issues were fundmental causes of the dark ages

Definetely, when you say it is a 'Dark Age' it is a 'Light Age' in Muslim world at that moment. Yeah it is the rise of intelligents like Ibn Sina, Al-Idris etc. etc. Al-Gebra was found, etc. etc. Muslim world was on the rise at that moment.

But that is a renaissance when European people 'steal' that intelligence property.

Christianity never had a downfall. If it did that would mean it's no longer around.
