Congratulations on your decision to home school. It's one of life's adventures that has more rewards than challenges.
The first step is to research the law for your state. You can find the information here: http://www.hslda.org/
Once you have researched the law, you will need to find out who the school superintendent is, complete the home school notification documentation and mail it to the superintendent certified mail. This is an example of a form we use: http://www.cheohome.org/download/Home%20Education%20Notification%20Form.pdf
The next step is to determine your child's learning style and what type of teaching approach you want to use. A child who is a visual learner may need the approach of computer programs and dvd's to be able to remember things easier. Therefore, maybe an online K-12 school would work best?
There are so many options when it comes to home schooling, and the best part is that you know your child better than anyone.
You can mix and match curriculum to suit the needs of your child. There are many companies to choose from and some websites have reviews of products and offer forums where you can ask questions.
Another thing to think about is whether or not you want to provide your child with a Christian curriculum, or secular.
Here are a few resources that might be helpful in your quest:
Homeschool: Has many links and answers to home schooling. http://www.homeschool.com/
Sonlight: Christian curriculum. Offers product reviews and forum. Some prep time required before you can teach the material. http://www.sonlight.com/
Rainbow Resource: Has a wide variety of curriculum. Offers product reviews. Also quite affordable. http://www.rainbowresource.com/
K-12 Education: I'm not too familiar with this type of home schooling, but I wanted to provide the info. http://www.k-12.com/
I hope that you find something useful here. I wish you well with your endeavor.

First of all horray for choosing Home School!!! I am a home-schooler myself. To get started first find out what the laws are in your state an then if your children are already in a school go to the office and ask for an intent to home-school form and they will help you if you need it. Next you need to decide what curriculum you want to use. Personally I think Switched-on-Schoolhouse is the best, it is a computer based education and it grades your work for you, and has a lot of bonus stuff! Mardel's a Christian book store has a wide selection of choices. Once you have your curriculum the rest is up to you. May God help you along the way!

You need to find out about the laws where you live http://www.hslda.org and also decide how you want to homeschool--through your homeschooling laws, through an online program, through the school district if it has something...
If you're going to do it through the homeschooling laws where you live, you need to then make sure you do whatever they require of you. Then you find your resources and get to it.

An easy way is to log on to the K12 website (www.k12.org? try a search). This site lists the curriculums for courses and has links to local homeschooling groups.

I would start here:

Also contact your local and state homeschool organizations and attend a homeschooling conference (great for networking and finding curriculum).

If you don't know, you shouldn't be doing it. Homeschooling should only be done by parents who happen to be certified, educated teachers. Leave education to the educators!!
