doesn't sound like a date, especially lunch

Probably not. He will think it is a lunch date to discuss a common interest. Which is fine, for a first date, but at the end of the date you should say something like "this was fun, we should do it again, soon." And then give him a big close smile, or try to move in for a kiss.
