First of all this has nothing to do with the Ardanes of any Wiccan tradition that I know of - Why would cutting down an Alder tree be "forbidden"... ? I can see the point if you are following the Rede and saying "An it harm none" means trees as well. That said; what about the paper in your book of Shadows? What if the tree is half-dying anyway and will soon fall on your house and kill your family in Their sleep - shouldn't you expand "an it harm none" to "An it help some"?

In any case you can use some imagination - If you want to be buried under an Alder Tree - just plant a seed or a seedling on top of the grave...

If you are in the UK, you need to contact the Tree Warden at your local council, to find if it has a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) on it. If it has, you are not allowed to cut it down, or even to prune off branches, without first submitting an application for planning permission. This is to prevent people from removing beautiful trees which have been alive for longer than you or I have. If there's no TPO, you can do what you like to it, but please consider leaving it, it's obviously a glorious tree, in full health, supporting an enormous range of wildlife, adding to the landscape, and giving you shade and interest. Presumably the tree was ther when you bought the house, unless you've lived there for over 50 years or so, so you knew what you were getting. I hope you leave it alone, or that a neighbour gets a TPO put on it ASAP!

I guess you're referring to the idea that Alder is sacred to faeries, in which case, being buried under one wouldn't matter.
