seems weird, since he is supposed to be god himself. kind of makes you suspicious, wondering why he would need to ask himself why he forsook himself.

When Jesus made the call, He wanted the people to recognize that He was referring to all of Psalm 22, not just the first verse. The people would recognize the quote and later would read all the psalm. Then, they would know that what had just happened had been prophesied long before.
Psalm 22: 16-19, 24
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to help me. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
He constantly told His listeners to read the Scriptures for they told of Him. He knew that the people did not understand what was happening. However, He knew that they had been taught the sayings of the prophets from childhood. According to this answer, He was not implying that God had forsaken Him, but He was pointing out to the people the psalmist's prophecy. Thus, He would not be in contradiction to Deuteronomy 4: 31, 2 Chronicles 15: 2, Psalm 37: 25, 28, or John 16: 32.

It shows us that Jesus truly suffered for all of us. As a human, he
felt pain. It also proves to us that Jesus has a God, just as we do, and often prayed to his God and Father, while on earth.
When Jesus was at the point of death, to whom was Jesus crying out? To himself or to part of himself? Surely, that cry, "My God," was not from someone who considered himself to be God. And if Jesus were God, then by whom was he forsaken? Himself? That would not make sense. Jesus also said: "Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit." (Luke 23:46) He did not entrust his sprit to himself.

ELOI ELOI la' ma sabach' thani? ---My GOD, My GOD WHY have you forsaken me?
Thus was uttered the most tragic words ever to be said on the face of the Earth! Can we actually realize what these words meant? THIS was what our LORD feared the most! He SUFFERED greatly before He said these words. His beatings we so hard that one could not recognize Him as human. The cross was used as it was one of the most painful forms of execution known to man. Yet it was THESE words the Lord feared the most.
ELOI ELOI la' ma sabach' thani?
WE will NEVER be able to say these words. NEVER, not as a child of God. WE were promised that He would never leave us or forsake us.
(Heb 13:5) Given this promise that unlike the SON of God that we will never be forsaken, consider the following carefully. It is not easy to write this.
Although we will never be forsaken, we were NOT promised we would never suffer. In fact, it was the exact opposite. 1 Peter chapter 2 tells us about how our Lord suffered, with verse 21 stating “because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow in his steps.
Why then is it that we get so, so frightened to tell our co-worker about what HE has done for us? Why do we not tell our next door neighbor? Is it because we are afraid they will not “like” us anymore? Or maybe they may say something ?mean back to us?
My friend, GOD has only promised never to leave those who have trusted in Jesus for full payment for their sin, however, if you have not trusted Christ, God can not leave you as you have never accepted Him yet. Please read the following link to see how you too can have this promise...that GOD will never leave you

Jesus cried out, for a pair of motives. the 1st reason being that He replaced into consistently a factor of God, the father, and for the 1st time, the father had to coach far flung from Him using fact He ought to no longer look upon all the sin He bore. Jesus replaced into in anguish, no longer purely from the crucifixion, yet greater so from being separated from the father purely for that couple of minutes. As Jesus suggested in the previous, "I and the father are one." He could no longer undergo the separation. yet one greater reason is, He replaced into quoting Scripture, (Psalm 22) so it would turn the Pharisees interest on that distinctive Scripture, wherein Jesus replaced into gratifying on the go. He replaced into exhibiting them who He relatively replaced into, and that He replaced into proving it top then and there in His dying. The Pharisees might have prevalent which Scripture passage it replaced into top away, using fact they memorized Scripture. Jesus knew that. wish this clears it up for you. And it replaced into OUR sin Jesus bore, no longer His own, and the father could no longer look on the sin. Jesus replaced into no faux. you in basic terms did no longer understand. i wish you do now. God Bless

At that moment Jesus had taken upon himself that burden of all the sin of the world. God could not bear to look upon Him because of that.

I think I would cry out the same thing. Why would this make me feel any commitment to Jesus? He did not obey the Romans, The bible tell us to obey the laws of the land, and to give Czar his fair share. Try cheating the IRS and they will hang you hide out to dry.

Peace!
It proves that Jesus is also human. There are other verses in the synoptic gospels which shows his humanity.

A brief moment of delirium brought on by pain, blood loss, heat,
he then gave His spirit up to his father.
