When I was a kid, It was embarrasing to do stuff like go to the store to buy tampons for my sister.

After I had dated a few girls it was easier. Now that I am over 40, I am posting about it on the internet, ha ha. :)

So, as you get older, yeah no big deal, circle of life.

A woman's period is such a beautiful thing. I have no idea why most men think it's dirty.

It is what makes a woman, a woman; it is a natural occurring cycle. Personally, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable talking about it. I love talking to my girlfriend about her period. It's a higher degree of bond, intimacy, and trust.

For me it seems that it has less to do with maturity than with familiarity with a person.

Example:

Under 6 months seems too soon.

1.5 years or so seems like you share just about everythng anyways, so by that time, it's probably ok to discuss.

Casual friends should never use it as a conversation subject.

Usually only intimate or very close friends can talk about it without totally barfing.

Either way, why are you discussing this anyways unless it is physicall bothering you or you feel like it's important to some aspect of your relationship?

well if it's a wife or girlfriend, i would like to know for personal sake. i don't want it to be the subject of our conversation EVERYTIME. just a simple, now or next week would be alright.

i really don't want to hear about one of my friend's flow days. i kinda have this unofficial rule with some of my friends. if they don't mention periods, i won't mention any poop or stiffie jokes. if one of us breaks it, we get to unleash like a horror story.

i would like to say it gets better with time, but women are great at bringing it out of nowhere when guys least expect it. we could be talking about like solutions for world peace, and all of a sudden "yea i just started" and that would ruin the entire conversation.

i've grown up with women, and i've been hearing it for as long as i can remember, in different languages, and it's always weird. especially when my cousin's talkin to my mom or my abuelita is talkin about how hot she's gettin... it's not somethin a 14 yr old boy wants to hear.
that's just me though.

My daughters and I are always talkin about our periods. If there is a male present they generally dint mind. I ask though. But the more they hear the more informed they are anyhow. I am sure my son is a expert and will be a great compassionate husband when he is older.

I'm not uncomfortable talking about it. But I sure got unnerved with a girl who used to leave her used sanitary pads in the bathroom.

As we fall in love there gets more and more we get to know about each other. That means the closer we get then I am going to hear you talk about it eventually, It does not make me uncomfortable.

Depends on how squeamish a guy is, I guess.
You'll never know if you don't ask!

Personally, I have no problem with it.
