For those who have grown their spirit, it is capable of going well beyond the body and can travel to distant lands if so desired. The human being must become a master of meditation to reach this stage. The average non-meditating spirit has not nurtured this quality of the soul and there lives within the body only. Study the lives of Sufi Master, Gurus and Buddhist monks who have master Dziker (Meditation on Divine names and Attributes) and transcendental meditation and you can start to see examples of those who have attained this ability. It is not unattainable. But and fyi: sarcasm kills the souls and will not allow a person to grow.

Your spirit doesn't forget to keep up.
The spirit is the most truthful part of mind/body and spirit.
Spirit occasionally allows the body and mind to catch up with it's intentions.

Hmmm. Odd question.
It usually doesn't leave the body, mainly cause, that's usually called Death.
Kind of like a Radio Controlled car asking why does it's battery always stay with it...

Because the body is like a cage of flesh, trapping your soul within it so that it can't escape until the body dies.
