How much time he serves will depend on the exact charge he was convicted of and what his criminal background is. Certain violent crimes, or if he has certain convictions in his background, will cause him to serve 80% of his sentence. If you was recently convicted and shows an outdate in 2015, he is probably going to in custody until then.

If he has any prior felony convictions, he's probably screwed. There's an enhancement in CA for a felon possessing a firearm. Anyway, more than likely he'll serve the required 80%. If he got 15 years for a conviction in 2006, he'll serve 12 years. But that would give him a release date in 2018, so there may be a time-served or other stipulation reducing his sentence down a bit.

Long story short, he'll probably be in until 2015. Especially since that's only 8 years away and he got a 15 year sentence. Sorry.

The date you are talking about is his earliest vrelease date, depending on what kind of a prisoner he is, and whether the parole bvoard has pity on him and give him a break. If he keeps his nose clean while in prison, and doesn't cause any trouble, there is a chance he may be paroled in 2015.

They talk about "time off for good behavior" I don't know if that can apply to him. So if it does apply to him, just tell him to be good and not get into anymore trouble while in jail.

He'll probably serve around 7 if not more years.
But, what was he doing with guns? Isn't that scarey?
