My sister hasn't been acting at all like herself ... for a while. I know that her boyfriend has been arrested for possession of crack, even though she swears she's never done it. Are there any signs to look for that she's using this particular drug?

Well one way to tell is to look around her room. Look for aluminum foil, cut up pop cans, or spoons with dark burn marks on them. Crack heads usually keep those things close at hand. Also something to suck the smoke up with a straw or a slender glass pipe or often the empty casing of a ball point pen is used. These things to will likely have burn marks on them.

No need for sleep or food she may ramble on, or lock herself in her room and you won't hear from her for long periods of time.

But I still think one of the biggest signs a person is smoking crack, or crank is their skin. Her complexion will go to hell. Greasy, zit, possibly she will have been picking at her face. The toxins from these drugs are released through a persons skin and they don't smell good either.

The signs of crack addiction are very similar to cocaine addiction. However, there are many differences between how the drugs are used and the duration and types of effects experienced by the user. Crack, sometimes called "Rock", is a purified form of cocaine that is smoked by inhaling the vapors of cocaine that are given off as the drug is heated. Crack is cocaine has been distilled form its familiar powder form of cocaine hydrochloride. Cocaine powder is put into a mixture with baking soda, heated, hardened and then broken into pieces. Crack is often more pure than sniffable cocaine (85%-90% pure). It is sold as light brown or beige pellets. Drug dealers distribute ready to smoke freebase cocaine packaged in small vials.Crack addicts have many tell tale signs of their addiction. A few physical signs of crack addiction include dilated pupils, sweating, weight loss, irregular heartbeat, frequent upper respiratory infections, fits of coughing, coughing up black mucous, muscle tremors, severe headaches and a decline in personal appearance. Additionally, a few emotional signs of crack addiction include dramatic mood changes, and insomnia followed by exhaustion, loss of interest in friends, loss of interest in food, sex, or other pleasures, hearing voices and hallucinations.

not wanting to go to work, sleeping all day and up all night and not taking a shower and mood changes and stealing and lying these are just some of the signs. Now there are some people that can hide their addication very well and you would never know that they use drugs. Or maybe your sister is worried about her boyfriend and his bad habits.

don't forget meth -- everyone seems to be doing it these days and it is worse than crack.

crack makes your thoughts unclear and directionless -- kind of sluggish. you don't sleep well so you are tired and complainy because you want more money for more crack.

meth is like you get a light switch on you -- you are on or off and if you are off usually you are sleeping. when you are on you think you own the universe and have to get things done. both are really bad for your skin (zits, etc) and people tend to lose weight -- more on meth than crack.

your guessing what she might be doing is really kind of pointless though. my best advice would be don't let anyone in the family give her money but let her always know she can stay somewhere and have a meal and a roof over her head. she has to be willing to help herself and stop herself. you can't do anything until she decides to stop.

if you get to observe her sleeping both of them give people horrible nightmares. a friend of mine that was a crack addict would scream while he slept and one time i gave him my bed and he dug at his leg until he bled all over my comforter. its kind of scary really.
