Huffing is getting high by drinking bottles of cough syrup, or by sniffing model airplane glue, gasoline, butane, or paint. It is basically using household products to get high or get a rush. Can a person that does this stop at any time or do they need a 12 step program or rehab? How widespread is this problem in the United States?

its very addictive, it has the same effect as meth.it also causes serious brain damage. it has become a very widespread problem and needs to be taken care of by a drug rehab program.

this kind of problem is pretty wide-spread, my guess, mostly among unsupervised kids with parents who are also battling addictions and who are either not available at all (i.e., the kids are in foster care) or who are oblivious to what their kids are doing. The solvent-based substances are really hell for young organs, and the stuff is highly addictive because it gives a quick euphoric high that is pretty much otherwise unattainable in their bleak and pain-filled lives. There are not too many rehab beds around, as far as I know, and kids with big sniffing problems will bop through several foster homes. Some die. I don't know how wide-spread it is....??

Good question.

Used to be a "inner city" problem to substitute for other harmful drugs as huffing is cheaper. Now it's wide spread and huffers are damaging brain cells as bad if not worse than conventional drug use.
Repeated huffing almost always leads to addiction in which case a person will need medical assistance to rehabilitate.

Huffing is very addictitive. The saddest part of huffing is that most all the substances are not detectable through drug testing. And it isnt just children that are poor or alone. It could be ANY child. There isnt many rehabilitation programs because it has been such a hush hush subject.I really hope that changes.

No, but gross and hazardous to your health. Do you really like the smell of fermenting poop? A combination of methane gas and hydrogen sulfide as well as other "unknown products". Not the least of which is bacteria. Can you imagine what a prolonged session of huffing poop can do for your health not to mention your body odor? Apparently you have never stepped in a "cow pie" on a farm in hot humid weather. The oder is "memorable" to say the least.
