you may have to prove your family connection but you shouldn't have a problem. It may cost £25.00.
Alternatively you could write to the below address for info. Try and send as much info as you can i.e service number, unit, regt.

Finding exact details in military history for individuals is difficult some of the details might still be on the "Top Secret" list. In the army (sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs) you are better off searching by number not by name, as this is a specific identifier, you'd be surprised how many Steve Smiths there are in the UK! Secondly you would probably need to get access to mission archives (hence the top secret) Some orders missions and combatants should be recorded somewhere. When you know where he was serving you need to follow up the chain of command see if you can find out who the lieutenant was (unless your grandad was an officer go to the rank above in this case. The officers give the orders to the rank and file and as such looking into the orders will give you a good idea as to what your grandad did. The Sargent of a platoon is also a good one to follow as where the Sargent went the platoon would also go. Most of this info will be in journals correspondence and so you really will need to devote a lot of time to this. If there is a specific event which you are untested don't be surprised if you cant find it, in times of war things don't always get written down, and even if they are they are often lost

This might be a starting place, The Black Watch Museum in Perth, Scotland. I visited there last summer and was most impressed. Since the Black Watch has been disbanded, they may be of some help at least directing you as to where to look. Good luck!

previous Scottish regiment recruited generally around Perth and Dundee. An from time to time illustrious history with an somewhat certainly not often reported area which includes deployment interior the Highlands after the 1745 Jacobite insurrection and particularly too enthusiastically searching down and killing suspected Jacobites. Their exploits in the process the 2d worldwide conflict are memorable for all of the properly suited motives. They weren't consistently in contact in action to be proud of their earlier history... yet you will not discover that reported interior the regimental museum.

Good luck, my dad had the same problem - my grandfather, Norman Will (from the proud Clan Gunn) and his twin brother were also in the Black Watch during the same period, but not the same regiment - they spent some time in Burma during that period.
