without seeing it, it is hard to say whether or not it is infected. if it is red and it hurts, it is probably infected. but if you are overloading it with healing lubricant, you may be drowning it and causing it to take a gooey form. if you are putting too much tattoo aftercare cream on it you will prolong healing and cause it to chunk off instead of nicely peel. you also do not want it to scab. do not scratch or rub at it. tattoos will naturally peel when they are healing. try to keep it clean by gently washing it twice a day with a mild (best unscented) soap. keep it slightly moist at all times with whatever you are using to keep it moist (ie tattoo aftercare or tattoogoo). you do not want it to be overly coated with this stuff, but you need to have a thin layer on it at all times. if the bubbling does not heal up or the pain or redness that you have does not go away, you may want to see a doctor, but first, i would recommend going back to the tattooist and asking for some first hand advice from the person that tattooed you. as well, you could potentially be allergic to the lubricant. just keep it clean and slightly moist and away from any potential dangers and hopefully you should keep up fine. a well laid tattoo should take no longer than one week to a week and a half to heal. some can take as little as a few days.

If you're using a petroleum base product such as A&D or neosporin then it will do that. Those products suffocate the tattoo and draw out the colors. Try to get some Tattoo Goo. You can get it from your tattooist or from their website. Use it 2x a day and it will get better very soon. If it's bothering you too bad then get to your doctor! Just don't scratch it!
Hope this helps and good luck!

are they colored or just black and grey work? Keep using your antibiotic ointment just a thin coat a few times a day. Wash your tattoo with soap and water. If the bubbly look doesn't go away you may be alleric to the ink you can get a shot from your local clinic and some just go away after a few weeks. Hope it works out and by the way did you listen to your tattooist? He is the one who should answer this question. Always make sure they are clean and sterile. Tats by Hawkeye!! Hes one of the best

Skin peeling isnt unusual on a tattoo. Your tattoo parlor should have given you an ointment to put on it to prevent infection, and if you are using it its probably just peeling. look for redness around the tattoo and if its weeping a lot of fluid or pus its infected obviously. When in doubt, stop in at a free clinic or even go back to the tattoo parlor. They can probably tell you what an infection looks like for sure.

If you're worried, talk to your tattooist.
Also if they're good in any way you should have gotten clear instructions on care and what to expect. if you didn't get instructions. find another tattoo parlour and ask them to look at it.

The one thing I know from my experience is keep it as dry as possible, and no petroleum based creams. Curell, and Lubriderm are fine. Small amounts!

and don't scratch!

NO TATTOO SHOULD EVER BUBBLE! damn internet misinformation. it is probly infected. trust me, had it happen to 3 tats. sometimes it is a reaction to the gloves or soaps, mine was a reaction to certain brands of red. why risk it? go to a doctor or e.r and they will prescribe you some antibiotics. shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks for the pills. an infecton, no matter how minor it looks can kill you if it infests the blood stream.

It's not likely an infection. It's normal for it to bubble up as the dead top layer of skin begins to peel off and/or scab. Use A&D ointment to prevent infection, but use it very sparingly -- once or twice per day for maybe 2 days.

Where did you have the work done? Was the equipment sterile? Was it a trust worthy shop with good sanitation habits? I would put a thin layer of Lubriderm lotion on it to assist with the healing. Don't itch it but you can gently slap or pat it to try and get rid of the itch which means it's healing.

i was recommended to keep applying savlon to a new tattoo, it helps to get the skin to scab and reheal very quickly.

I'd go back to the place you've had it done and get them to have a look at it. if they can't help then see your gp.

that's normal have you been applying some none scented skin lotion

but if the tat is feeling sore or aggravated go back to the tat shop and see if they sell a product called dragon mist to put on it that should help clear up the issue
