I am prone to attacks of common cold, and its pretty severe, i have constant running nose for a day or two and then it reduces, but i get it quiet frequently...can anyone suggest me a good home remedy instead of tablets or syrups or in any other way it can be controlled, i do take constant steam inhalation, anything medicinal herbal cure if available would be of great help.

The cure for the common cold has eluded scientist forever. BUT there is hope.

First, get yourself one of the plug-in modules they use in a childs room for stuffy noses. It works great, and there's nothing in it to harm you. Constant steam is not necessary, but something excellent I've alway found is, belivie it or not, homemade chicken soup from scratch.

Get yourself a whole chicken, clean it well, put it into a pot of water; let it come to a boil then turn it down. Skim off the residue floating on the water. This is just from the bone and skin being boiled. Wait until the chicken is partially cooked (when the residue stops forming on top) then add chopped cerely, onion and carrots. Put in the celery leafs as this is very good. Let that stay at a rolling boil, then when the chicken skin is breaking or tearing and the meat is starting to fall away from the bone, get out a couple of big spoons and remove it to a plate. Take off the excess skin, and remove the bones and cut the chicken however you're used to it.

Add to the water about 10 chicken boullion cubes and flavor it to your own taste, then let it continue to cook on medium for about 45 minutes. While you're waiting, you can cook some noodles to drop in there, or some rice (Success Rice is good-boiling bag) and in a couple of hours you have something without presertatives or addatives. If you want to enhance the flavor, do as we Italians do and sprinkle on some Parmasian cheese.

Believe me, you'll open your head and will be sitting there with a box of kleenex blowing your nose. The hot steam from that soup, and the soup itself will do you wonders. Even my mother's doctor had to admit it; when she took him chicken soup when he had a cold, made like we always made it, it cut his cold time in half.

Ummm I would prescribe that at least twice a day. If you don't like chopped onion in your soup, but you like the flavor, then just drop in a whole, pealed onion, and then take the entire thing out once the soup is cooked. I had to do that for my son.

Also, if you're prone to colds, consider the time of year it usually begins attacking you. Get yourself some Echanichia tablets (or tea) and take it once a day for 6 weeks ONLY. Then stop. The Echnaichia help to build your immunity to colds and flu virus. I did it that way for two years, and I've only had one very mild cold and one flu which was 24 hr. So, on that score, I'm doing well.

Vitiman C, of course is important, plenty of fluids such as juices, and even Gatorade. They recommended that for my son as well. If you're sweating it out, the potassium supplament will help keep your levels up. But DO NOT just take potassium by itself. There are three chemicals that run your heart, potassium, calcium and magnesium and you don't want to upset the balance; you only need a sensible replacement...and this will suffice. That or Orange Juice...very important.

For a cough, take yourself a shot of burbon and mix some honey and lemon with it. GREAT for coughs...but try not to overdue it. Put an extra pillow under your head at night, and by all means get yourself a Vicks Inhaler. They are great!, and I would be lost without mine. I even use the inhaler when I have my severe sinus headaches. Which reminds me, IF you can take antihistimines, then I always use Advil Cold and Sinus. OH my, what relief. But, if you're on any heart meds, or High Blood Pressure or Diabetic Meds you of course have to ask your doctor if you can have that.

So, I wish you luck and let me know about that Chicken soup. If you really don't feel like making it, there is one out that that's really great and that's the Progresso, but the regular Chicken soup. That's the closest to the 'from scratch stuff' as you'll get; unless you stop at a restraunt that is. :>) Actually, for the scratch soup, it is a combination of the oils from the chicken skin that mixes with most probably the bone marrow of the chicken that has the chemical affect. But the steam is always, for any hot soup.

Without medication the common cold lasts about 7 days. With lots of vitamin C it lasts about a week. In other words, no med can stop it. The best way to prevent colds is to wash your hands after being in public places, and not touch your face, where viurses enter through nose, eyes and mouth. But maybe you don't have colds. Maybe you have an allergy which can mimic a cold. You should go to a doctor for allergy tests.

Go down to your local liquor store and buy a tiny bottle of
EVERCLEAR

Stick clean cotton swabs in the everclear.

Swab your throat & tounge.

And make sure you dont use q tips in your ears- last time I used em I had a nasty ear infection. Drs say you need wax to protect against bacteria and I believe it now.

Also, drink tea with LOTS OF LEMON juice inside. The acid is hostile to bacteria (but not viruses obviously).

Take vitamins every day

Be sure to get plenty of vitamin C and zinc. You can get those in your diet, or take supplements. Green tea may also help.
