If by sit-ups you mean crunches, then yes. Sit ups are a dated way to increase abdominal and back strength, but they are actually very bad for your lower lumbar. The best way to get a six pack is by doing various ab crunch exercises and working out the upper and lower abs as well as the obliques. If you don't want a santa six pack ((aka a bulging out stomach with muscle lines)), make sure to keep your lower back pressed flat against the floor while doing your crunches with the feeling of your "belly button being against your spine"....make sure you're engaging your stomach tightly against your body. To up the ante you can try various abdominal exercises with weights.

Push-ups will work your pectoral muscles, your triceps, and your deltoids. They also have ancillary benefits for your stomach and back, so push ups will be good for your ab goal as well. Another way to develop your chest muscles would be bench presses and flyes.

Depending on your level of fitness now, go with however many your body can handle. On a beginning level, I'd say 16-25 crunches per abdominal area and start at 10-20 pushups in order to see or feel results without overworking yourself. Work up from there and adjust according to how your body adapts.

Good luck with your fitness goals!

Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span. No food or drink in between the food and not more than three meals a day, unless u r diabetic.

push-ups: chest, triceps, shoulders (along with abs to stabilize yourself)

sit-ups: stomach

a six pack is made in the kitchen, not in the gym. you have to eat better to lose fat over your muscles. you can't spot reduce the fat by doing ab exercises.
