Listening to an audio-book version of the King James Bible, I came across a place that seemed to pretty clearly condemn gays. It was the part w/ Lot. Did I understand this part of The Good Book rite?

oh, you mean Lot whose wife was turned into stone when she turn to look at the burning cities of sodom and gomorahh?

please do not use Lot as an example because if you read the bible he used his daughters as prostitues to appease the crowds that came to his house.....and most important, after his wife's death he had sexual relations with his daughers and they bore him children......INCEST!

people during that time weren't the best example of piety or prudence based on today's rule of conduct, don't you think?

another example of propriety is......abraham was afraid the pharoah would kill him when he and his tribe went to eqypt so he gave his wife, who was also his sister, sarah, to the pharoah to be his wife......

another great example of proper conduct would be kind david, who had the husband of batsheba send to be killed in battle so he could acquire her for himself.......

jacob married two sisters, rachel and leah, and also had children with their two maids.......

man, i could go on....and, on......and, on.......so please DO NOT quote the old testament as people then were primitive and decadent.

let's talk about Jesus in the new testament. in the new testament, Jesus never said anything about homosexuality......it was already after His death when St. Paul's letters to the corinthians and other group that this was first mentioned. Today, we know that many of these letters were not written by St. Paul but his followers.

The story of Lot has to be taken in context.
You also may want to read the Bible in a more approachable English version than the King James.

Now in the story when the angels visit, Lot invites them to his house. The people of the town come out and demand that Lot brings them out of his house so they can "know" them. ("Know" is King James speak for "have sex with.") More specifically they wanted to gay gang rape them. This is quite a worse sin than just being gay. Not to mention, in this culture, there were very strong taboos against hurting a guest in any way. This taboo is why Lot offered his daughters instead of his guests.

Now the Bible has a variety of other comments about homosexuality. But this is not actually one of them. However, the city name of Sodom has been associated with homosexuality despite this.

That's what you heard. We are all condemned unless we follow certain "rituals" or do as instructed. I am trying hard to give a neutral answer so as not to offend anyone, but enlighten.

what we have a hard time doing is seperating the sin and the sinner. We are to hate the sin, but not the sinner. When they are one in the same sometimes it get tough.

Homosexuality is most definately an abomination to God. He hates the sin, but loves the sinner. If they (all of us) don't change our ways to his teachings and they (we) die in that state of sin, they (we) are condemned.

Further down the line, the Bible says that whosoever call's upon the name of the Lord SHALL be saved. Shall make it unconditional.

I'm not gay bashing, just answering this question.

Okay...

Most of these things that the Bible condemns really are wrong.
But you have to remember that Leviticus was a book setting the law for the country of Israel at the time.

It is not commanding Christians to stone people who work on the Sabbath.

Actually if you study that story a bit more and actually read about the punishments that God had said should be use on those who practice such you will find it was stoning and that is what God did he stoned the city into dust. That is also what will bring his final judgement on the earth. Sexual perversion like has never been known in all time.

Did you come across the part where you are to stone your neighbor to death if he works on the Sabbath? Until all you homophobes are willing to kill your neighbors for working on Sunday "because the Bible says to" then you have absolutely no right to condemn homosexuals "because the Bible says to".

ya you did, but also the bible teaches love ... if u are gay but live your life with love then you are OK. Jesus was in love with Mary and she was a prostitute, his best friend Judas, I truly believe was bi sexual. just live your life the best you can and you will be fine. Keep your faith and God will except you into the gates of heaven.
